Autumn Newsletter

Dear friends of Tanzania,

While Tanzania has rainy and dry seasons, we have our own seasons, of which autumn is the most beautiful. Shortly before the start of autumn, I was in Tanzania on a short visit to see family, friends, projects and schools.

There have also been some personal changes in my life: I married my Tanzanian partner at the beginning of the year and we now live together in Berlin. I also have a new job, again in tourism marketing, and some unnecessary health problems have reduced the time I can devote to the association.

Nevertheless, there have been some developments and changes, which you can read more about in this newsletter.

Warm regards,
Stephan Auner
(Chairman of the board)

Visit to Tanzania

In addition to visiting my family, the short visit provided a valuable opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with the sponsored students and to talk to teachers, school administrators and local partners.

Dageno Girls Secondary School

Some students with difficult family circumstances are now attending secondary school, known as Form 1-4 in Tanzania, thanks to our school sponsorships. After that, they could go to college or continue on to Form 5 and 6 in order to attend university.

Dageno Girls School is a private boarding school and, as the name suggests, is only for girls in secondary school. They have their own social workers and work with village councils to help girls from difficult family circumstances with sponsorships from associations such as ours or other international NGOs.

Sasa Primary School

A few pupils in our sponsorship programme also attend Sasa Primary School, which is also a private school with accommodation. In this case, it was founded by Tanzanians and also has a colourful mix of pupils who are financed by families themselves or in cooperation with various international NGOs through sponsorships. The school also has a nursery with a pre-school and works with children with physical disabilities.

Amani Kindergarten

Amani is a kindergarten with a preschool in Karatu, Tanzania, founded and financed by the German association Amani e.V.. The project focuses on families with low incomes. The families pay a small contribution, with the rest being covered by the association.

We are always looking for support in the form of sponsorships so that the children from this project can attend a good school after completing their preschool education.

Pepea Children Foundation

We have written about the project many times before; it shares our name and is also the reason why our association exists. Part of the project is a children’s home that serves as holiday accommodation, but in a joint meeting we decided to close the accommodation for financial reasons. From 2026 onwards, children who need holiday accommodation for various reasons will be accommodated by other projects.

ยญAssociation topics

It’s great that you made it to the end. There are just a few small club announcements left, and then we’re done.

Regulars’ table / Members’ meeting

Due to time constraints, there will only be the members’ meeting in November, which will also be held online this time so that some members from outside the area can participate. The date will be announced in the next two weeks.

For active and interested members, there will be a digital get-together starting in 2026, where everything important will be discussed on a regular basis. Some members have their own projects in Tanzania, others may want to start their own, and there are always many topics to discuss…

However, I am still open to meeting in person, preferably in Berlin, Potsdam, Rostock, or elsewhere, if time permits.

Your project

For some, this may be new, but as mentioned briefly above, our association is open to members and non-members alike who wish to run their own projects in Tanzania through our association. There are rules and a small administrative fee, but more on that at the general meeting and in a separate blog post in the near future.
